What Is a Speaker Surround?
The surround (also called the edge or suspension) is the flexible ring that connects the outer edge of the speaker cone to the frame (basket). It serves two critical functions: allowing the cone to move freely along its axis while keeping it centred, and providing a portion of the driver's restoring force (along with the spider).
